Genie garage door opener repair in Ottawa, same day
Genie garage door openers are repaired across Ottawa the same day, from $185. Genie opener dead, grinding, or flashing a red Safe-T-Beam light? We fix Genie sensors, Intellicode remotes and worn carriage gears the same day across Ottawa. Repair from $185, a new opener from $595 installed.

Why is my Genie opener not working?
Most dead Genie openers come down to one of three faults: a tripped or blinking Safe-T-Beam sensor, a stripped carriage or drive gear, or a dead Intellicode remote. We diagnose the exact cause on site and fix it the same day, repair from $185.
Genie is one of the three brands we service most in Ottawa, alongside LiftMaster and Chamberlain, and it has its own parts and quirks. Before you call, try the manual release and lift the door by hand. If the door is heavy or will not budge, the opener is not the problem at all, that is usually a broken torsion spring repair. If the door lifts smoothly by hand but the Genie motor will not run it, the fault is inside the opener or its safety system, and this page walks through each one. What does a flashing red light on a Genie mean?
A blinking red Safe-T-Beam LED means the safety beam is broken or the two sensors are out of alignment, so the door refuses to close. A solid blue LED means the beam is healthy and aligned, which is the state you want.
Safe-T-Beam is Genie's name for the photo-eye safety sensors mounted about six inches off the floor on each side of the door. One sensor sends an infrared beam, the other receives it. When something blocks or breaks that beam, the opener stops the door from closing so it cannot crush a child, pet or car bumper. A blinking red light is the system telling you the beam is not getting through.
The usual culprits are a sensor knocked out of line, a dirty lens, a cobweb across the beam, or a cut wire. Wipe both lenses and check that nothing in the doorway is blocking them first. If the red light keeps flashing, the sensors need realignment or a wiring repair, which we cover under safety sensor alignment. For a step-by-step look at the codes, read our guide to a flashing red light on a Genie Safe-T-Beam sensor.
My Genie grinds or won't reverse, what is wrong?
A grinding noise while the door stays put is a stripped carriage or worn drive gear, the most common Genie wear part. A door that opens but will not reverse points to the force and travel settings or a binding rail, both fixable same day.
Genie openers use a different rail and trolley than LiftMaster. Many run a screw-drive rail, where the trolley rides a threaded steel shaft, and the newer Wi-Fi models run a belt drive. On screw-drive units the plastic carriage that grips the screw wears down and starts to slip, which sounds like grinding while the door barely moves. We replace the carriage and re-grease the rail, and the opener runs quietly again.
Stop running a grinding opener, because each cycle wears the carriage or gear further and can overheat the motor. If the Genie reverses on the way down, the Safe-T-Beam sensors are misaligned. If it stalls on the way up, the force limit is set too low or a roller is binding in the track. We reset the force and travel limits, replace the worn part, and clear the cause in one visit, repair from $185.
Do you carry Genie parts?
Yes. We stock the common Genie repair parts on the truck, including carriages, drive gears, Safe-T-Beam photo-eye sensors and Intellicode remotes. That means most Genie opener repairs finish in a single same-day visit with no waiting on parts.
Knowing your model helps us bring the exact part, and the Genie model number is usually printed on a label on the back or side of the motor head. The parts we replace most often on Ottawa Genie openers are the screw-drive carriage, the worn drive gear, the Safe-T-Beam sensor pair, and the Intellicode remote or keypad.
If only your remote or wall keypad is dead but the door works otherwise, that is a quick Intellicode remote and keypad reprogramming, not a motor or board fault. If a discontinued Genie part is no longer made, we will tell you honestly and quote a replacement rather than sell you a repair that will not last. See the brands we service across Ottawa for the full list.
Should I repair or replace my Genie opener?
Repair a Genie under 10 years old with a single-part fault like a carriage, gear, sensor or remote. Replace one that is over 12 years old, has a burnt motor or a dead logic board, since a new opener from $595 installed is the better value.
A well-kept Genie can run 15 years or more, so a one-part repair on a newer unit is an easy call. The economics change once the motor is burnt out or the circuit board has failed, because on a unit over a decade old a board can cost nearly as much as a whole new opener.
When replacement is the smarter move, we most often install a belt-drive LiftMaster from $595, which is quieter than a Genie screw drive, handles Ottawa cold far better, and adds battery backup and myQ Wi-Fi control. We never push a replacement you do not need, but we also will not patch a worn-out opener twice. Financing is available on approved credit if you would rather upgrade.
