Chamberlain myQ Error Codes: What They Mean and Fixes
By HUSH Garage Door Service· Updated
A myQ code names a specific account, connection, device-management or feature condition. Match the exact number and message below. Code 301 is an invalid serial number; code 601 is a permanent hub link, not a server failure.
These groups help you find the right instructions. Code 601 is a permanent door-to-hub link, not a server fault.
Account or registration
203, 207, 301, 310
Login, serial number or account ownership
Network connection
304, 309, 311
Check the device-specific connection message
Device management
601, 602
Permanent hub link, or duplicate name
Response or feature
308, 707
Device not responding, or close schedule disabled
Do this, in order
-
Read the exact error code and message
Open the myQ app and note the number and wording shown. Read the exact message rather than assuming every 300-series code is a network failure. For example, 301 is an invalid serial number and 310 concerns another account.
-
Identify the device and check power
Identify a built-in Wi-Fi opener, a separate Smart Garage hub or an Ethernet Internet Gateway. For an offline device, check power and the matching network connection, then follow its model-specific restart and LED instructions. A reboot does not correct an invalid serial number or another account association.
-
Follow the matching connection flow
A built-in Wi-Fi opener or Smart Garage hub needs a 2.4 GHz network; an Internet Gateway such as 828LM connects to the router by Ethernet. For 311, follow the Wi-Fi instructions for the identified opener or hub. A previously working device uses the app reconnect flow rather than automatic deletion or factory reset.
-
Fix the account, then the link
For 203 check the email and password; for 207 follow the app account-recovery instructions. For 310 follow the manufacturer's ownership-transfer guidance. Code 601 explains why a door cannot be removed alone from its hub; remove the opener itself only if you intend to remove it from the account. For 602 choose a unique name.
-
Test one full open and close
With the doorway clear and the door in view, test the app after completing the matching troubleshooting flow. If the wall control works but the app does not, investigate the account, app-control and connection path; this does not identify one failed component by itself.
-
Call a technician if the opener itself faults
If the door reverses, strains or does not operate normally from the wall control, stop cycling it and arrange a door and opener diagnosis. Confirm address coverage, the available visit and the written quote including applicable taxes before booking, especially for a Quebec address.
Stuck, or the door is under spring tension? Stop and call (343) 700-1077.
What are myQ error codes?
A myQ error code identifies an account, connection, device-management or feature condition. Use the exact message in the manufacturer’s table; the first digit alone is not a diagnosis.
If you are asking what myQ is in the first place, it is Chamberlain Group’s app and cloud service for Wi-Fi garage door openers. myQ connects a Chamberlain or LiftMaster opener to your phone over Wi-Fi. Depending on the product, the connection uses built-in opener Wi-Fi, a separate Smart Garage hub or an Ethernet Internet Gateway. Some codes describe account registration or device management rather than a broken network handoff.
Match the exact number before changing settings. A 301 invalid serial number and a 310 account-ownership message do not call for the same action as an offline hub. Chamberlain publishes the meanings in its myQ app error-code table.
For the wider picture of opener symptoms, see our guide to garage door symptoms.

What does each Chamberlain myQ error code mean?
Find your exact number and read the corresponding message. These are distinct conditions; the code does not by itself prove an opener hardware failure. The sections below separate account, network and device-management steps.
| Code | What it means | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| 203 | Wrong email or password at login | Re-type your email and password carefully, or use the reset-password link |
| 207 | Account temporarily locked | Follow the app account-recovery instructions or the manufacturer’s locked-account help |
| 301 | The gateway or hub serial number you entered was not valid | Recheck the serial number on the device label and enter it again |
| 304 | myQ asks you to check the connected device and solid green LED | Use the device-specific connection and LED instructions; an Ethernet Internet Gateway is not a Wi-Fi hub |
| 308 | The device is not responding | Check that the opener is powered and within range of the hub |
| 309 | The gateway or hub is offline | Check its power and network connections, then power cycle it |
| 310 | Device is registered to a different myQ account | Have the previous owner remove it, or contact Chamberlain to release it |
| 311 | Wi-Fi hub or opener is not provisioned to Wi-Fi or is not connected to the internet | Follow the in-app Wi-Fi instructions; use reconnect for a previously working device |
| 601 | The garage door is permanently linked to its hub and cannot be removed on its own | In the myQ app open Device Management and remove the Wi-Fi garage door opener itself, not the door under it |
| 602 | Duplicate device name on the account | Rename the opener to something unique, such as “Main Garage” |
| 707 | myQ has disabled schedules that close the door | No user fix; close the door from the app or wall button and contact myQ support |
203 and 207: account and login codes
Codes 203 and 207 are about your myQ account, not the hardware in the garage. Error 203 is a wrong email or password, and error 207 is a temporary lockout after too many failed attempts. Neither one means the opener or gateway is broken.
For 203, retype your email and password slowly and watch for a stray space, a wrong capital letter, or an old password saved in your phone’s autofill. Use the in-app reset-password link if you are not certain. For 207, stop guessing and follow the app account-recovery instructions or Chamberlain’s locked-account help. Do not reset the opener to resolve an account login problem.
301, 304, 308, and 309: gateway and server connection codes
Three of these four are connection faults. A 304 means the device is not showing connected and its green LED is not solid. A 308 means it is not responding, or out of range. A 309 means the gateway or hub is offline.
A 301 is different. It means the serial number you entered was invalid.
For an offline or unresponsive device, identify built-in Wi-Fi, a separate Smart Garage hub or an Ethernet Internet Gateway before restarting anything. Follow that device’s power and LED troubleshooting. The Internet Gateway connects to the router by Ethernet; the Wi-Fi opener and Smart Garage hub use a 2.4 GHz network. A restart does not correct an invalid serial number.
For a Wi-Fi hub or opener, check the required 2.4 GHz network using the model-specific instructions. A combined network name alone does not prove incompatibility. Use the exact LED pattern and code if the device stays offline; do not escalate automatically to factory reset.
310: device on another account
Error 310 means the opener is already registered to a different myQ account, so yours cannot claim it. This is extremely common when you buy a home with an existing opener, or pick up a used Chamberlain unit. The account association blocks registration; this code alone does not establish the condition of the hardware.
Use Chamberlain’s ownership-transfer guidance for the identified device, or ask myQ support for help with the account association. Follow factory-reset instructions only when that guidance directs you to them; an ordinary network reconnect does not resolve another account’s ownership. If you are unsure the opener supports myQ at all, check first whether your opener is myQ compatible before troubleshooting further.
311: Wi-Fi provisioning failed
Error 311 means the Wi-Fi hub or opener is not provisioned to Wi-Fi or is not connected to the internet. It does not identify a failed motor or establish that every myQ product uses Wi-Fi.
Follow the in-app connection instructions for your identified Wi-Fi opener or Smart Garage hub. If it previously worked and is still on your account, use Update Wi-Fi Settings rather than deleting it first. Check the Wi-Fi password and 2.4 GHz network, and bring the phone close to the device during setup. Use the model’s LED pattern and network guidance if reconnection fails; do not relocate an installed opener or assume a factory reset is required.
If it reaches Wi-Fi but drops out after setup, read why myQ won’t connect or shows offline.
601 and 602: linking and duplicate-name codes
Codes 601 and 602 both turn up in device management rather than during a normal pairing. A 601 means the door is permanently linked to its hub, so it cannot be deleted on its own. A 602 means the name you picked is already used on your account.
For 601, open Device Management in the myQ app and remove the Wi-Fi garage door opener itself. The door entry is permanently linked to that hub, so it cannot be deleted separately, and no amount of re-pairing will clear the code. For 602, simply rename the opener to something unique, such as “Main Garage” or “Side Door,” so the account does not have two devices fighting over one label. Neither code points to a hardware failure.
707: scheduled close is disabled
Code 707 is not a fault in your opener. It means myQ has disabled schedules that close the door, and Chamberlain’s support page says only that they are off “until further notice”. It lists no accessory or setting that turns them back on.
You can still close the door from the app or the wall button. If timed closing matters to you, contact myQ support rather than buying an accessory in the hope that it unlocks the schedule.
The same logic sits behind the auto-reverse and entrapment protection in every opener. Our opener light blinking codes guide covers it.
Do the same error codes show on the Chamberlain myQ-G0401 Wi-Fi hub?
Yes, the Chamberlain myQ-G0401 Wi-Fi hub reports through the same myQ app, so the app code meanings above apply, while its connection and reset steps remain hub-specific. The G0401 is sold as the myQ Smart Garage Control: a wireless Wi-Fi hub on the ceiling plus a battery door sensor on the top panel.
Chamberlain states the G0401 works with most brands of opener made after 1993 that use photo-eye safety sensors that do not shut off. That second condition matters: on an opener whose photo eyes power down after the door closes, the hub cannot run the door reliably, and no code in the table fixes that.
Setup runs over Bluetooth inside the myQ app, then the hub joins your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. A 311 during that step is the same provisioning failure described above. If the app shows the door open when it is shut, the door sensor on the top panel and its battery are the first things to check, not the hub.
My myQ says “Offline.” What now?
An “Offline” status means the app is not receiving the device connection it expects. Check device power, home internet, account access and any service interruption, then identify built-in Wi-Fi versus a separate hub.
For a previously working device, follow the myQ offline and reconnect guide. A working wall button helps narrow the fault, but does not establish that every app, radio or safety function is sound. If the wall button also fails, stop cycling the door and arrange diagnosis.
How do I reset the myQ gateway or hub?
Start with the action for the exact code, not a generic reset. A Wi-Fi reconnect, clearing saved Wi-Fi and factory reset are different operations. Chamberlain’s factory-reset guide says not to factory-reset merely because the device is offline or the router or password changed.
Use factory reset only when the manufacturer’s troubleshooting or support directs it, including its specified ownership cases. A built-in opener factory reset erases remotes, wireless keypads, HomeLink and myQ accessories, which then need programming again. Use the instructions for your actual model rather than a hub’s button sequence on the opener.
Is my opener even myQ compatible?
Not every garage door opener works with myQ. Chamberlain and LiftMaster openers built since roughly 2011 with the yellow learn button and Security+ 2.0 are usually compatible, either directly or through an add-on gateway. Many older or off-brand units are not.
Before you spend an evening fighting setup errors, confirm the opener actually supports the system. Check the model number against Chamberlain’s compatibility list, look for the yellow learn button, and see whether the motor head has a Wi-Fi indicator. A full breakdown of which models work, and what gateway you need for older openers, is in our guide to whether your opener is myQ compatible. If the opener is too old to support myQ even with a gateway, a smart myQ opener installation from $595 gives you native app control without the workarounds.
When the fault is the opener, not the app
If the door responds at the wall button but not in the app, investigate the account, connection and app-control path. If the door also fails at the wall control, reverses or strains, stop cycling it and arrange diagnosis of the door and opener. That observation alone does not distinguish power, controls, safety systems, opener hardware or a door fault. The codes above only cover the smart layer.
Mechanical and electrical faults sit below myQ entirely. A worn drive gear, a failing logic board, a bad RPM sensor, blocked photo-eyes, or a broken spring that leaves the door too heavy for the motor.
A blinking motor-head light, rather than an app code, points at one of those. Our opener light blinking codes guide decodes the flashes.
When myQ is fine but the opener is not, you need parts and hands, not a reboot. Ask about Chamberlain garage door opener repair in Ottawa. For a Quebec address, confirm coverage, visit availability and the full quote including applicable taxes before booking. Kanata Lakes and Bridlewood are full of these smart openers, and smart opener repair in Kanata runs on our daily west-end route.
When to call a factory-trained technician about the opener
Call a factory-trained technician on any of these 3 signs. The opener faults at the wall button. A power cycle and re-provision will not clear a connection code. The door reverses, strains or stalls.
A failed reconnect alone does not prove a hardware fault. If the door strains or moves unevenly, stop cycling it and have the door and opener checked.
HUSH services Chamberlain, LiftMaster and Genie openers daily. The visit should identify the fault before recommending parts or replacement; a connection message alone does not establish the repair or its duration.
Owner Omar is a factory-trained technician. Every visit carries our 90-day Done-Right Guarantee, with no overtime fees evenings or weekends. A diagnostic service call starts at $150, free with any repair over $250, and opener repair starts from $185.
Call HUSH at (343) 700-1077 or book Chamberlain opener repair and we will sort the app from the opener for you.
