Garage door remote and keypad repair and reprogramming in Ottawa
Garage door remote and keypad repair in Ottawa covers reprogramming, batteries and receiver faults, same day. Remote or keypad dead and the door will not open? Start with a fresh battery. If that fails, we reprogram, repair or replace remotes, keypads and wall buttons on every opener brand, usually the same day.

Remote or keypad not working? Here is the fix
First, swap the battery, a CR2032 in most remotes and a 23A or 9-volt in keypads. If a fresh battery does not work, the device has lost its programming and needs re-pairing to the opener, which we do on site the same day.
A dead remote rarely means a dead opener. The hand-held remote, the wireless keypad and the wall console are separate transmitters that all talk to one opener logic board. When the door ignores all of them at once, the problem usually sits in the opener itself and calls for opener repair across Ottawa and Gatineau. When only one device is dead, it is almost always that device. Call us and we will sort out which.
Why is my garage door remote or keypad not working?
Four causes cover nearly every case: a dead battery or worn buttons, lost programming after a power cut or new opener, range or signal interference, and a worn wall console or its wiring. Each has a simple test before any part is replaced.
Dead battery or worn buttons
A weak battery is the number one cause. A remote that works only up close, or needs a hard press, is telling you the CR2032 is fading. Worn rubber buttons that no longer click also stop the signal, and that means a replacement remote.
Lost programming after a power cut or new opener
A surge, a long outage, or a swapped opener can wipe the codes stored on the logic board. The remote and keypad then need to be re-paired using the learn button, the purple, yellow or red square on the back of the motor head.
Out of range or signal interference
Openers run at 315 MHz or 390 MHz, and LED bulbs, Wi-Fi gear or a neighbour's electronics can drown out a weak signal. If the remote only works from the driveway, not the street, interference or a tired antenna is likely the cause.
A worn wall console or wiring fault
The wall button uses low-voltage wires, not radio, so when it fails the issue is a cracked console or a broken wire, not programming. We test the terminals, replace the console if needed, and check the rest of the door while we are on site, as part of same-day garage door repair, every brand.
Can you reprogram a remote or keypad to my opener?
Yes. We clear the opener logic board, press the learn button, and re-pair every remote, keypad and car-button you own. This works on LiftMaster, Chamberlain and Genie, including rolling-code Security+ 2.0 openers that older fixed-code remotes will not match.
Reprogramming after a move is common too. New owners often have no remote, or want the old codes erased for security. We wipe the board, set a fresh keypad PIN, and program in your remotes so the previous codes no longer open your door.
Do you supply replacement remotes and keypads?
Yes. We carry universal and brand remotes, wireless keypads and wall consoles on the truck, so a lost or broken remote is replaced and programmed in one visit. No waiting for a mail-order part that may not pair with your opener.
If you want phone control, ask about a myQ or Wi-Fi upgrade so you can open the door from anywhere. We match the new device to your opener brand and frequency before we leave, then test it from inside and outside.
Which remote and keypad brands do you work with?
We service LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie, and the remotes and keypads built into most other openers. From older 315 MHz fixed-code units to modern Security+ 2.0 rolling-code systems, we carry compatible parts and know the learn-button routine for each brand.
If your remote brand is discontinued, a programmed universal remote is the fix, and we keep them stocked. Whatever opener you have, we will pair it, or tell you honestly if the logic board itself needs the attention instead of the remote.
How much does remote and keypad service cost in Ottawa?
Reprogramming during a service visit runs with the $35 to $85 service call, and that call is free with any repair over $250. A new universal remote or keypad supplied and programmed is roughly $40 to $90. There are no overtime fees, ever.
We quote the price before we start, never after. If the dead remote turns out to point at a failing motor or board, we will show you the opener options and price first, so you decide. No surprise charges land on the invoice.
